Explore the diversity and complexity of human experience in the contemporary moment and the “deep past.” 人类学 students and faculty investigate fundamental questions about our common humanity and engage critically with social and political issues that shape our world.

We conduct field research in rural and urban locations from Australia to the Arctic and on topics as varied as ancient warfare, outer-space colonization, 气候变化, 亲密的暴力, 媒体制作, 社会行动主义. Employing emergent methodologies and established ones—like remote-sensing and participant/observation—we investigate local meanings, 全球联系, 权力不平等, and processes of change.

公开信 on Police Violence and Anti-Black Racism

The 部门 人类学 condemns White supremacy, 反黑人种族歧视, and the state-sanctioned violence that has ended the lives of so many Black people. 和我们的学生, 的同事们, 朋友, and community members, we stand in solidarity with the movement for Black lives. The resources we share (including recent articles, 网站, 视频, podcasts and books) offer critical insights on these issues within and beyond the discipline and amplify the voices of Black anthropologists and other scholars and activists.
